KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command marked a change of responsibility on Aug. 18 at Vogelweh Kaserne as Command Sgt. Maj. Henry Scott assumed senior enlisted duties from Command Sgt. Maj. Kellen Rowley. The ceremony honored service, welcomed new leadership, and reinforced why the U.S. Army’s air and missile defense command for Europe and Africa leads on modernization, innovation, and readiness.

Air defense general talks deterrence at LANDEURO

WIESBADEN, Germany — On June 16, U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Curtis King, the commanding general of the 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command, spoke at the Association of the United States Army LANDEURO event in Wiesbaden, Germany, on the panel “Defending the Skies: Today’s Capabilities, Tomorrow’s Edge.” He was joined by Seanna Senior, senior vice president of product at Govini, and retired Maj. Redefining the Possible: European Terrain Serves as Innovation Test Bed

This same spirit of challenging the status quo characterizes today’s military innovation. First to fire: air defenders conduct first NATO live fire with SGT STOUT in Norway

ANDØYA, Norway — Soldiers of the 5th Battalion, 4th Air Defense Artillery Regiment recently joined NATO allies in the Arctic Circle for Exercise Formidable Shield 2025, putting the U.S. Army’s newest short-range air defense system, the SGT STOUT, to the test through multiple live-fire engagements. The event marked the first time the SGT STOUT, formerly known as the Maneuver Short-Range Air Defense, or M-SHORAD, fired Stinger missiles in an exercise with NATO allies and partners, highlighting the critical role of ground-based air defenses within the Alliance’s integrated air and missile defense architecture.

Air defenders make history at African Lion 2025

In the heat of the rugged Tunisian terrain, the 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 52d Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command, showcased the abilities of the Avenger Air Defense System for the first time on the African continent. This live-fire training, part of the African Lion 2025 exercise, helps train and maintain the U.S. Army’s global readiness.

Change of Charter ceremony underscores commitment to innovation and allies

The 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command held a change of charter ceremony April 9, officially welcoming Chief Warrant Officer 5 Brett Bernier as the command’s new command chief warrant officer and bidding farewell to Chief Warrant Officer 5 David Miller, who had served in the role since 2022.

10th AAMDC hosts European integrated air and missile defense symposium in Germany

GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany – Military leaders and air defense experts from more than 15 NATO countries and partner nations, as well as representatives from U.S. Air Forces in Europe-Air Forces Africa (USAFE), U.S. Army Europe and Africa (USAREUR-AF), Allied Land Command (LANDCOM), and Allied Air Command (AIRCOM), gathered in southern Germany from Feb. 19-21 for the European Integrated Air and Missile Defense (EIAMD) Symposium, hosted by 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command.

10th AAMDC honors sacrifices in 80th anniversary of the liberation of Wingen-sur-Moder

WINGEN-SUR-MODER, France – Soldiers from the 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command joined local officials and residents on Jan. 12, 2025, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Wingen-sur-Moder. The solemn ceremony honored the bravery and sacrifice of French and American soldiers who fought to free the village from Nazi occupation during World War II.

1-57 ADAR Soldiers strengthen NATO’s air defense with Exercise Southern Shield

BUCHAREST — U.S. Army Soldiers from Alpha Battery, 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, are putting their readiness to the test in Exercise Southern Shield, a combined U.S.-Romanian Short Range Air Defense exercise, which began on Nov. 14, 2024. The exercise demonstrates NATO’s collective commitment to securing airspace in Eastern Europe amid escalating regional tensions.

King takes over US Army’s air and missile defense command in Europe

Brig. Gen. Curtis King took over from Brig. Gen. Maurice Barnett as the head of the 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command at a ceremony at Sembach Kaserne. The command’s role “is more important than ever, given the return of large-scale ground combat to the Continent,” commander of U.S. Army Europe and Africa Gen. Darryl Williams said.

1-62 Air Defense Artillery Battalion to transfer authority of the US Patriot mission to 5-7 Air Defense Artillery Battalion.

POLAND — The 1st Battalion, 62nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment will transfer authority of the U.S. Patriot mission in Eastern Europe to the 5th Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery Regiment on June 17, 2024. The 5-7 ADA rotation signals the U.S. and NATO’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the security and defense posture in Eastern Europe.

U.S. Army Warrant Officer Honored as European Missile Defender of the Year in Warsaw

U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 4 Sanjeev "Jay" Sivasankaran was recognized as the Missile Defense Advocacy Alliance’s U.S. Army European Missile Defender of the Year at the 2024 European Missile Defender of the Year conference in Warsaw on May 9. The event, now in its seventh year, recognized air and missile defenders from multiple countries and services, including the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, Poland, Romania, Lithuania, and Ukraine.
