1st Lt. Kendrick L. Key Jr., a 27-year-old native of Richmond, Virginia and platoon leader for 5th Battalion, 4th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, received the Soldier’s Medal for sacrificing his life in a valiant attempt to save a fellow Soldier, leaving behind a legacy of extraordinary heroism that will forever be honored.

Army Air Defenders assess IonStrike interceptors to support Eastern Flank Deterrence Initiative

The 52nd Air Defense Artillery Brigade (52d ADA BDE) is testing and evaluating new counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (c-UAS) capabilities, including IonStrike, a radar-agnostic, low-cost kinetic interceptor designed to strengthen layered defense against Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). IonStrike, produced by DZYNE Technologies, offers a potential new mid-range intercept capability for air defense formations facing increasingly complex UAS threats. The system integrates with existing command-and-control architectures, including the Forward Area Air Defense (FAAD) System and the Integrated Battle Command System Maneuver (IBCS-M), enabling Soldiers to employ the interceptor through systems they already use to detect, track, classify, and engage one-way attack drones.

Air Defenders deliver defensive fires during Dynamic Front 26 in Romania

Soldiers from Alpha Battery, 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command conducted air defense training and live fire in Capu Midia during Exercise Dynamic Front 26, the U.S. Army’s largest fires interoperability exercise in Europe. The training strengthened how allied and partner forces integrated offensive fires and defensive fires and reinforced NATO readiness in a complex security environment.

First to fire: air defenders conduct first NATO live fire with SGT STOUT in Norway

ANDØYA, Norway — Soldiers of the 5th Battalion, 4th Air Defense Artillery Regiment recently joined NATO allies in the Arctic Circle for Exercise Formidable Shield 2025, putting the U.S. Army’s newest short-range air defense system, the SGT STOUT, to the test through multiple live-fire engagements. The event marked the first time the SGT STOUT, formerly known as the Maneuver Short-Range Air Defense, or M-SHORAD, fired Stinger missiles in an exercise with NATO allies and partners, highlighting the critical role of ground-based air defenses within the Alliance’s integrated air and missile defense architecture.

Air defenders make history at African Lion 2025

In the heat of the rugged Tunisian terrain, the 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 52d Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command, showcased the abilities of the Avenger Air Defense System for the first time on the African continent.
