Soldiers from Alpha Battery, 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command conducted air defense training and live fire in Capu Midia during Exercise Dynamic Front 26, the U.S. Army’s largest fires interoperability exercise in Europe. First to fire: air defenders conduct first NATO live fire with SGT STOUT in Norway

ANDØYA, Norway — Soldiers of the 5th Battalion, 4th Air Defense Artillery Regiment recently joined NATO allies in the Arctic Circle for Exercise Formidable Shield 2025, putting the U.S. Army’s newest short-range air defense system, the SGT STOUT, to the test through multiple live-fire engagements. The event marked the first time the SGT STOUT, formerly known as the Maneuver Short-Range Air Defense, or M-SHORAD, fired Stinger missiles in an exercise with NATO allies and partners, highlighting the critical role of ground-based air defenses within the Alliance’s integrated air and missile defense architecture.

1-57 ADAR Soldiers strengthen NATO’s air defense with Exercise Southern Shield

King takes over US Army’s air and missile defense command in Europe

Brig. Gen. Curtis King took over from Brig. Gen. Maurice Barnett as the head of the 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command at a ceremony at Sembach Kaserne. The command’s role “is more important than ever, given the return of large-scale ground combat to the Continent,” commander of U.S. Army Europe and Africa Gen. Darryl Williams said.

POLAND — The 1st Battalion, 62nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment will transfer authority of the U.S. Patriot mission in Eastern Europe to the 5th Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery Regiment on June 17, 2024. The 5-7 ADA rotation signals the U.S. and NATO’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the security and defense posture in Eastern Europe.
